Welcome to the Association for Women Lawyers! Whether you're new to our organization or a current or returning member, we hope you will find encouragement, education, support, and friendship through our programs and events.
Statement on Violence Against the Black Community
The Association for Women Lawyers unequivocally denounces all racist acts of hatred and violence. We are saddened and angered by the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and so many others. We stand with those raising their voices, protesting the injustices and demanding change. Those who have not had to experience this kind of oppression and injustice have not worked hard enough to end it.
The appalling reports of the lawyer who spat on a high school student in Shorewood during a protest over the weekend, though not a member of our organization, nevertheless demands the emphatic denunciation of such horrific behavior. AWL fully supports the right to protest peacefully the racial biases, abuses of power and injustices that continue to plague our community.
We must be a living example of how a community cannot be satisfied with mere diversity, but must work every day to be genuinely inclusive. We recognize that we have work to do, and we must hold ourselves to the highest standards.
